Julio Rodriguez

Scouting Report

Julio Rodríguez, Age: 21, Height: 6-3, Weight: 215 lbs.
Since signing as an international amateur free agent with the Mariners in 2017-18, Julio Rodriguez is recognized as one of the most talented, young players in baseball. His athletic profile produces consistent triple-digit exit velocities and supreme raw power.
Power: Raw, tantalizing power. Bat just sounds different. Jumps on mistakes in the zone with extreme exit velocities. Drives the ball to the gaps for extra bases. Doesn't need much effort to produce home run power.
Arm: Strong, cannon arm that makes throws from every spot in the outfield. Guns down runners reaching for second from the corners. Throws one-hop to home plate from center.

2017

Young Pro

Julio signed with the Seattle Mariners at 16 years old and made his pro debut with the Dominican Summer League Mariners. During the season, he batted .315 with five home runs and 36 RBIs despite being over three years younger than the average player he was facing. He was named both a DSL mid-season and a Baseball America All Star.

2019

Minor Leagues

Started with the Class-A West Virginia Power and was later promoted to the Modesto Nuts in the California League where he was just one of three 18-year-olds in all the minor leagues to play at high level Class-A. Between the two teams, Julio finished hitting .326 with 12 home runs and 69 RBIs and was 10thin the South Atlantic League with a .490 slugging percentage. He racked up the awards also, being named California League Player of the Week, MiLB Organization All Star, and was ranked the No. 25 prospect in baseball.

2020

Tokyo Olympics

Julio was a member of the team from the Dominican Republic that won a bronze medal at the 2020 Olympic games in Tokyo. Julio said, "I have never felt like this before playing baseball,” he said. “I’ve been enjoying this game, and I love playing this game every single day. But when I put on that Dominican Republic jersey and to have the Dominican on my chest, it just feels so different. I honestly felt a whole different level of emotions when I wear that uniform.”

2021

The Future is in Seattle

Julio was selected to play in the MLB All-Star Futures Game in Denver. Julio on his Future’s Game selection: “It’s gonna be pretty fun because there will be a lot talent out there, and I’m really looking forward to face everybody out there and just compete and have fun against some of the best minor-league players that we have right now,” he said. “I’ve watched that game in the past. It was one of my dreams to play in that game.” Julio is ranked the No. 1 prospect in the Seattle Mariners system and the No. 2 prospect across all of MLB.
