Before St. John's

Before St. John’s

Julian Champagnie attended Bishop Loughlin Memorial High School in Brooklyn. During his senior season, he was named to the All-CHSAA “AA” First Team. That season, he averaged 17.2 points per game and led his team to a record of 23-4. He chose St. John’s over offers to Pittsburgh, Washington State, Seton Hall, and Cincinnati. He made this decision because he considers St. John’s, as well as the area, home.

2019-2020

Freshman Season

Champagnie had a successful Freshman campaign. He started 26 of 32 games, scoring just under 10 points per game. He also recorded 6.5 rebounds per game, which was seventh in the Big East and first on his team. He was named a Big East All-Freshman Team selection and was named the conference’s Freshman of the week twice.

2020-2021

Sophomore Season

Champagnie took a massive step forward going into his second season at St. John’s. He recorded 19.8 points per game, 7.4 rebounds per game, and hit 88.7% of his free throws. These numbers were first, seventh, and first in the Big East respectively. He also finished second in the Big East in double-doubles. Champagnie is the fourth player from St. John’s history to lead the conference in scoring. He scored a career-high 33 points against Creighton on January 9th in the regular season.

2021-2022

Junior Season

After declaring for the draft but maintaining eligibility, Champagnie ultimately decided to return for another year at St. John’s. So far this season, he is averaging 21.3 points per game. He came close to his career-high in points against Indiana on November 17th, scoring 32. He joined the BlueChip Team in November.
