High School

Christ the King

Jose played basketball for Christ the King Regional High School in Middle Village, Queens in New York City. As a Junior, Jose averaged 17 points and 6.5 assists per game and was named Catholic High School Athletic Association (CHSAA) Player of the Year. To follow up on his Junior campaign, Jose finished his senior year with a bang as he recorded 18 points, 10 rebounds, 10 assists and 10 steals, the first quadruple-double in school history, in a December 22, 2016 win over Xaverian High School. For the season overall, Jose averaged 17.9 points per game and led Christ the King to the CHSAA intersectional quarterfinals. He was named Times Ledger Player of the Year.



2018-2019

Georgia Tech

Jose spent his college career at George Tech and started strong. During his freshman year, he started in all 25 of his games and averaged 12.1 points, 3.7 rebounds and 3.1 assists. He became the fourth George Tech freshman to average at least 12 points, 3.5 rebounds and two assists a game.
During his sophomore campaign, Jose took advantage of an increased role where he averaged 12.5 points, 3.9 rebounds and 3.4 assists a game. He led the team in scoring, assists and steals. On February 20, 2019, Jose scored a career-high 29 points to go with six rebounds and five assists in a 73–65 win over Pittsburgh.


2020-2021

ACC DPOY

The momentum didn't stop for Jose during his Junior season. He averaged 14.4 points, four assists, 3.4 rebounds and 2.2 steals per game and was named to the Third Team All-Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC). In terms of individual highlights, on January 25, 2020, Jose scored a season-high 26 points to go with eight rebounds and a school-record nine steals in a 64–58 victory over NC State. Jose closed at his college career strong by averaging a career high 15.2 points, 4.1 assists and 2.8 steals a game. To foreshadow his defensive prowess in the NBA, he was named ACC Defensive Player of the Year.


2021-2022

New Orleans Pelicans

Jose persevered after being undrafted, by signing a two-way contract with the New Orleans Pelicans in August of 2021 and began his pro career between the Pelicans and the G League, Birmingham Squadron.
His New York grit paid off on March 28, 2022, when his two-way deal was converted into a 4-year contract.


GTA

Grand Theft Alvarado

Jose due to his defensive intensity and sneaky meme-able moves that often end up as steals, the basketball world has coined Jose with the nickname “Grand Theft” Alvarado. These high effort plays have translated into a league-leading 3.1 steals per 36 minutes.
